A train company have dealt a huge blow to travellers and commuters in Nottingham as they have announced their services will be disrupted. CrossCountry trains from Nottingham are expected to either be cancelled or delayed due to staff shortages on Monday, December 22.
According to the railway company these staffing issues will mean there will be disruption all day. Travel will be impacted from Nottingham as well as Cardiff Central.
Fewer service will be running to and from Nottingham on the line, which runs through Birmingham, Cheltenham and Gloucester among other towns and cities. Christmas travel plans will be impacted as many are set to head home or visit family this time of year.
In a statement National Rail said: "A shortage of train crew means that fewer trains than normal are able to run between Nottingham and Cardiff Central. As a result of this, trains running between these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."
There has been no further explanation as to what has led to the shortage however it is believed the issue will only impact travel until the end of Monday. On average there is one direct train from the station every hour - but there will be less today.
Passengers can travel using CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Bristol Parkway, changing there for Great Western Railway services to Cardiff Central for no extra charge.
"If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, then you can use your ticket on the two CrossCountry services operating before and the two CrossCountry services after your cancelled service.
"If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost"
