Neighbours fans sobbing as show finally ends after 40 years with huge cliffhanger - The Mirror

Neighbours has come to an end - once again - with fans left 'sobbing' over the Australian's soaps long-awaited finale. Earlier this year, Amazon confirmed that Neighbours would come to an end on its FreeVee platform, just a year and half after the streamer revived it following its cancellation in 2022.

The show's original finale saw the likes of Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce return for an emotional farewell. However, Amazon revived the soap shortly afterwards, with filming beginning in 2023.

Now, the last-ever episode has dropped on Freevee - and it's ended on a massive cliffhanger. The show's final moments see the residents of Erinsborough fret over where to move after Ramsay Street is put at risk by plans to build a new freeway in the area.

In the last scene, we watch as the residents dance to the Neighbours theme song, while Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) reflects on her memories of the last few decades. When asked by Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) and Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) why she hasn't left for either Ramsay Hills or Robinson Towers, she says: "I couldn't go. I want to stay. I want to fight for the street."

When she's told that it's impossible, Susan replies: "It's not! Other communities have beaten the odds, we could be one of them. All day, I've had the sense we've been here before.

"And we came out the other side, bigger and better than before. Ramsay Hills looks wonderful so does Robinson Towers, I can see them both in my mind's eye but I love Ramsay Street. I love our friends, I love our neighbours and I don't want to find a new perfect blend, I want to stay in this one."

The final cliffhanger left fans in tears, with one writing: "That slow music theme when they were in the Waterhole got me. Thank you for being the perfect blend Neighbours."

Another said: "Just watched the last episode of #Neighbours on @PrimeVideo that's it now... will now boycott that streaming service as it feels it's my little bit of action. I still haven't watched #channel5 since they dropped it! Petty and insignificant I know but it makes me feel better."

A third wrote: "So sad that it's all over. It might be just a silly little soap opera that I get stick for having watched for over 30 years, but Neighbours will take some replacing in my life. #Neighbours."

While a fourth said: "The final episode of #Neighbours airs tomorrow, and I sobbed in disbelief watching it. It's grossly unfair on the hundreds of wonderful folk who have dedicated so much. I've been blessed with many beautiful friendships and wonderful experiences through this show. Thank you."
