Oceanside Generals defence foils Comox Valley Glacier Kings in VIJHL clash

The Save-On Foods Oceanside Generals got back on the winning track, edging the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 4-3 in a Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League game on Sept. 19.

The Generals had to play well defensively to overcome the aggressive offence of the host Glacier Kings, who outshot Oceanside 44-29.

It was a close game with the score tied 0-0 in the first and 2-2 at the end of the second period.

In the third, Hunter Toth put the Generals ahead but two minutes later, the Glacier Kings tied it up 3-3. It wasn't until past the midway mark the Generals regained the lead on Ryken Lay's shorthanded goal, his second of the night. It ended up as the winning goal.

New Generals forward Jacob Leamy, who was acquired from a trade with the Westshore Woods for Jasper Fellbaum, notched a goal in his first game.

Lay was named first star of the contest and the second star was Leamy.

Goalie Ethan Suhr made 41 saves to earn the win in goal, his second of the season.

ICE CHIPS: The Generals are back home at Howie Meeker Arena to host the Lake Cowichan Kraken Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The next day, they head to Port Alberni to face the Bomber at the Alberni Valley Multiplex at 6 p.m.
