NThe New York Yankees can not seem to get out of their way, and after what was a promising start to the season, they have been one of the worst teams in baseball for nearly two months, and are fighting for the last American League Wild Card spot.
They are 27-34 since June 1, have seen their division lead disappear. Moreover, they are suffering some of the worst losses imaginable in that stretch. It's been a tough road trip for New York, as they dropped all three series since the beginning of August, and are 2-7 in the last nine contests.
The tough stretch of games culminated with manager Aaron Boone being tossed from Sunday's game in the third inning against the Houston Astros. It was his fifth ejection on the season, and he believes it didn't play a big part in the outcome of the game. Boone is starting to make a habit of drawing an ejection before 2:30 p.m. on random Sundays. Even Aaron Judge returning from the Injured List can't seem to save the New York Yankees' season.
Here is what Boone told reporters following the game:
"It was the first couple of innings," Boone said after the Yankees' 7-1 loss. "I was on him a lot. That's over and done with and it is what it is and that isn't the reason we lost this game."
The nail in the coffin for home plate umpire Derek Thomas was Aaron Boone chirping at him for a low-called strike on Ryan McMahon, which appeared to be in the strikeout by a healthy margin. Boone's five ejections this season are suitable for most by any MLB manager. He has also led the American League in ejections each of the past four seasons, and no surprise, he's the leading candidate to do the same this year.
