Pregnant wife gives CPR to save husband's life weeks before baby's birth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A pregnant wife performed CPR to save her husband's life after he went into cardiac arrest last month, just weeks before the Charlotte couple's baby is born.

According to a GoFundMe, Kurt Rosalik slipped into cardiac arrest while sleeping on Dec. 29. His wife, Poly, sprang into action and began giving CPR until paramedics arrived. Once resuscitated, he was rushed to the ICU and had to be intubated.

The fundraiser said Kurt has made progress and has had the tube taken out, but "his journey to recovery will be long and challenging." His recovery will include a move to a rehab facility for an unknown length of time.

"This young family is facing an unimaginable road ahead -- navigating Kurt's recovery while preparing to welcome their first child into the world," the GoFundMe's organizer wrote. "During this time, we are rallying around Poly, Kurt, and their baby-to-be to provide the support they urgently need."

It was only weeks before Kurt's emergency that the couple had taken a CPR course to prepare for the baby's birth in February.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 7, the GoFundMe had raised more than $8,100. The organizer said money will go toward paying off medical expenses, covering household bills and other needs.

Anyone wishing to help the family can do so here.
