'American Psycho' author says Luca Guadagnino reboot is 'fake news'

Guadagnino is reportedly helming a new film version of American Psycho, based on the book by Bret Easton Ellis, but new comments from Ellis are now leaving us wondering what is real and what is just fantasy.

On his podcast, The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Ellis said that he believes the reports of Guadagnino making a new American Psycho film are "fake news."

"I have a feeling it's fake news. I heard somewhere, from someone, that there are no contracts," he told World of Reel. "Austin Butler hasn't signed anything to play Patrick Bateman. Luca doesn't have a deal. Scott Burns, who is supposed to write the screenplay, doesn't have a deal either. From various sources that I have, this is just fake news that was put out there to see how an audience is going to react."

"If it does exist, I am not involved," he continued. "I have nothing to do with this, I might get some money if they do this, but I am not involved creatively on any level, and that is all I know."

American Psycho is a book all about the blurring lines between reality and fantasy, so it's only fitting that actual news about the film would do the same thing.

If it turns out his American Psycho movie isn't real, Guadagnino fans don't have to worry - he's still working on two other upcoming films.Guadagnino recently wrapped shooting
