Marina police suspend search for man swept into ocean

Marina police said they suspended a water rescue for a man swept into the ocean at Marina State Beach. Police got a call around noon for a man overcome by high surf at the beach. Bystanders tried to assist the man but the waves were too strong and large. Emergency responders went 300 yards north of Dunes Drive where the man entered the sea. There was no sight of the man when emergency responders arrived. The man was not found after a search. At 2 p.m. the search was canceled due to worsening conditions making it unsafe to continue searching. The name of the missing man is not being released at this time. More details will be released once they become available.
