Cronulla Sharks re-sign veteran forward

Cameron McInnes has extended his stay in the Shire after inking a one-year contract extension.

Cronulla have re-signed the veteran forward to keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.

"It's a really exciting and proud moment to re-sign," McInnes said. "I was lucky enough to sign here for four years in 2021 and to be able to extend here is all I wanted to do."

McInness joined the Sharks ahead of the 2022 campaign after previously playing for South Sydney and St George Illawarra.

The 30-year-old started his NRL career in 2014 at the Rabbitohs, before jumping ship to the Dragons in 2017.

McInnes established himself as a key player for the Dragons for four seasons until the Sharks poached him from their rival. He has clocked 74 appearances for Cronulla across three years at the club to date.

His contract extension comes off the back of another solid season for the hooker-turned-forward, who made his New South Wales debut under Michael Maguire.

He averaged 110 run metres per game and tackled at 96.5 per cent efficiency in 2024 as he once again provided stability through the middle of the park for Craig Fitzgibbon's side.

"I'm really glad the club are happy to have me," McInnes added.

"The club's in such a secure place. It's a high-performing environment and that's what I want to be a part of.

"I've got no doubt under Fitzy, the coaches and the systems in place here - I can't see anything other than striving for the best each year."
