Unusual Cornwall Christmas traditions are still celebrated today

Cornwall celebrates Christmas with unique traditions that blend history and modern flair. Historically, the county is known for Guise Dancing and the centuries-old Cornish Bush - a pagan-rooted wreath with an apple and a candle.

Unique festive gatherings involve the famous Stargazy Pie, to commemorate a fisherman who saved the village of Mousehole, whose lights are now a massive visitor attraction. For the brave, the Christmas Day swim sees hundreds taking to the cold Atlantic, often in costume.

More modern customs include a festive flavours-filled Christmas Pasty and the revival of traditional carols. The Montol Festival in Penzance celebrates midwinter with fire and music, and in some areas, Santa even arrives by helicopter.
