Detroit Tigers star Javier Baez has known his wife, Irmarie (nee Marquez), since middle school in Puerto Rico. They started dating in the early 2010s and married in January 2019, shortly after the birth of their first son. Their second son was born in December 2020.
On Monday, Baez's wife shared a multi-snap post on her Instagram, remembering her mother, who passed away last November. The cover image of the snap was from Irmarie's wedding day, highlighting her mother's happiness.
Snaps of Irmarie's mother with her kids, and also from the hospital also featured on the post. The final image, taken from behind, showed the woman going into an airport terminal, possibly an allegory that she had started a new journey.
"One year without you... â¤ď¸đŠšA year ago, the greatest and hardest test of my life came to an end. A year ago, a process began that I still don't understand. I ask myself many questions, but only God has the answers. A year ago, I had to dry my tears and carry on. A year ago, I laugh to keep from crying," Baez's wife wrote in the captions (Translated to English).
"A year ago, your absence hurts. A year ago, putting flowers on your wall, lighting a candle, and listening to your favorite music makes me feel closer to you. A year ago, I've been living on autopilot, but I know that with time, that will change. A year ago, I treasure and keep every memory of you in my mind and soul.," Irmarie added
"A year ago, my dance partner left me. A year ago, Mom, I wished things hadn't turned out this way, but it was God's will, and knowing you're okay, I accept it with peace in my heart. đ¤I love you and miss you, Juli. Watch over us and protect us all; I'll take care of the rest. A kiss to heaven, đŞ˝" she concluded.
Among the many who consoled Irmarie were Francisco Lindor's wife, Katia, Gio Urshela's spouse, Danna, and Justyn-Henry Malloy's girlfriend, Waleiny Brown.
"đ sending you a big hug â¤ď¸," Katia wrote (Translated to English from Spanish).
"I hug you from a distance â¤ď¸ You have a little angel watching over you and yours đđť," Danna commented (Translate to English from Spanish).
"đŤđ¤," Waleiny reacted.
Francisco Lindor and Javier Baez are childhood friends, having played against and with each other during their high school years. Selected eighth and ninth in the 2011 MLB draft, they were teammates on the New York Mets for half of the 2021 season.
Javier Baez's WAR (Wins Above Replacement) for the 2024 season is -1.1, a career low. The year was also tragic in his personal life as his mother-in-law died. Following her mother's death, Baez's wife, Irmarie, shared a multi-snap post on Instagram, opening up about the loss.
In the post's captions, Irmarie said that her mother still lives on in her memories. She added it was painful to watch her mother die, but believes that she is now in a better place.
Baez's wife also thanked her mother for unconditional love, and concluded with the hope that her mother would be a guardian angel for herself and her loved ones.
