Veteran Bollywood director Ramesh Sippy expressed his wish to make a movie in Kolkata on a joint venture project with the film industry in Mumbai and the City of Joy.

Veteran Bollywood director Ramesh Sippy expressed his wish to make a movie in Kolkata on a joint venture project with the film industry in Mumbai and the City of Joy.

The legendary filmmaker who was here in the city at the 31 Kolkata International Film Festival, showed enthusiasm to make a movie in the City of Joy collaboratively with Mumbai if he found a subject worth making. Delivering the Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture which is an integral part of the KIFF every year, he said: I did make a reference to it yesterday. I requested Mamataji also. I would be quite happy to work on a proposal with the making of a project with Bombay and Bengal if we find the right kind of subject and a film which could appeal to both the audiences. If it comes through, it would be great."

Talking about the Bengali cinema he said, "I think one of the finest films are made here as they are done in other film industries like the Mumbai or South."

Sharing anecdotes of filming Bollywood's one of the most iconic movies, Sholay, that is celebrating 50 years of its release in 1975, Mr Sippy reiterated how he included unity in religious diversity of India in Sholay through in the character of the Muslim priest, played by AK Hangal and his son played by Sachin. Explaining the iconic sequence of the Imam's son's murder, he reiterated: "Ek baap ke kandhe par bete ka janazaa, the dialogue speaks miles. It shows exactly what we intended to do.
