Police share tips to prevent WhatsApp fraud | Thiruvananthapuram News - The Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: City police issued a warning on Saturday urging the public to be careful about the possible hacking of WhatsApp accounts. Police alerted that the miscreants might snatch all the personal details of the victims and use them for various frauds.The accused may contact you on WhatsApp or through normal calls with various offers or promotions. After befriending the victims and building trust they would snatch OTPs to open the WhatsApp accounts of the victims on other devices. The accused would then restrict the users from activating their accounts for 12 or 14 hours and in the meantime, requests will be shared with the people in the contact lists asking for money, police said. City police urged the public to activate two-step verification on WhatsApp and not to share OTPs. Report crimes immediately to the helpline 1930 and try not to answer spam calls. Police also urged public not to open suspicious files or links from anonymous numbers.
