Vacant home ruled total loss after early morning fire in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A vacant home has been deemed a total loss after an early morning fire.

Firefighters with the East Side Fire Department and the Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a house located in the 200 block of Ponderosa Drive, not far from Florida Boulevard, just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

According to officials, heavy fire was found at the front of the house when crews arrived.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm around 5:30 a.m.

Crews were able to get the flames under control around 6:15 a.m.

There is no word on how the fire started. An investigator has been requested.

No injuries were reported.

Drivers and residents should avoid the area at this time.
