Even as the temperatures start to plummet ahead of a winter storm, The Wiggins girls
basketball team has found a way to stay hot.
Over the weekend, during their first game of 2025, the Tigers pounded Haxtun with 52-29, and
never allowed the Fightin' Bulldogs to surpass 10 points during any given eight-minute stint.
They, meanwhile, scored at least 11 points through every quarter.
Senior Kennedy Kerr took on the brunt of the team's offense, scoring nearly half of the total
points with a team-high 23 points. She shot 50% from the field, 67% from the foul line and 50%
from the 3-point range, going 3-for-6 from long range.
She supplemented that performance with a team-high six rebounds and a remarkable seven
steals to make herself truly formidable on the hardwood. Six other Tigers got on the board, with
junior Kallie Green ranking second on the team with eight points.
Freshman Juliet Leon paced the Tigers in other ways, taking down five rebounds while dishing
out two assists and four steals, as sophomore Kellie Vicchrilli added three boards, four assists
and four steals.
The Tigers debuted at No. 3 in Class 3A with CHSAA's first Selection & Seeding Index data
released on Monday. According to those same rankings, the Tigers have both defeated and lost
to 2A's No. 8 Sedgwick County -- their only loss of the season to date -- and defeated 1A's No.
8 Prairie.
They'll head next to Byers on Tuesday, who will be a formidable opponent in their own right.
The Bulldogs sit at No. 7 in Class 2A, and have an identical 6-1 record to the Tigers. Their only
loss of the season came in their first game against Evangelical Christian Academy, who sits at
No. 5 in Class 1A.
