Apple is reportedly moving suppliers into position for an early iPhone 18 launch, with base models expected to enter production by mid-February and reach buyers in the spring, while iPhone 18 Pro versions are still tipped for a September window alongside a possible, but uncertain, iPhone Fold debut.
This shift forms part of a new split-launch schedule. The standard iPhone 18 is said to arrive in the spring together with the iPhone 17e, while premium iPhone 18 Pro models keep their usual September slot, and a separate report now suggests the long-rumoured iPhone Fold might slip to 2027.
iPhone 18 Production Timeline and Split-Launch Strategy
Apple has usually unveiled all four mainline iPhones together in September, though some versions have occasionally reached stores later. The iPhone SE has always followed its own pattern. Splitting iPhone 18 launches could ease pressure on factories, improve stock for new models and spread Apple's revenue more evenly through each financial year.
Leaker Fixed Focus Digital claims Apple and manufacturing partners will move fast at the start of 2025, with trial runs for the iPhone 18 reportedly scheduled just after 1 January and the main build possibly starting before the Chinese Spring Festival, which begins on 17 February. "After the New Year's Day, the iPhone 18 series will be tested on the mass production line one after another and will be put into production before the Spring Festival at the earliest."
These early batches are understood to be formal test production, where finished iPhone 18 units are assembled on standard lines but in smaller volumes. Engineers and managers then monitor every stage closely. Any defects, supply issues or assembly delays discovered during this phase can be corrected before factories ramp up to full-scale output for the public launch.
iPhone 18 Production Plans for Pro Models and Accessories
Although iPhone 18 Pro manufacturing is expected later in the year, the same leak states the first dedicated assembly line is already in place. That suggests Apple locked the iPhone 18 Pro design well in advance, in line with the usual two-year lead time that allows suppliers to plan tooling, staffing and logistics.
The original report also lists several Apple accessories tied to upcoming models, including a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter for iPhone 17, official iPhone Air cases, MagSafe Battery, and dedicated iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro covers, and notes that income-earning auto affiliate links are used alongside these product mentions.
With suppliers preparing lines, test production scheduled around early January and a new staggered calendar emerging, Apple appears ready to trial a different rhythm for its iPhone 18 range, separating mainstream and Pro launches while continuing groundwork on future devices such as the iPhone Fold and related accessories.
