The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is the world's largest electronics trade show. High-level meetings typically don't take place during the event, but it's claimed that Samsung mobile division head TM Roh till have a very important meeting there.
Korean media is reporting that TM Roh will meet with Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra on the first day of CES 2026 on January 6. The report adds that an urgent request was made for this meeting from Samsung's side which was accommodated by Micron.
The two are reportedly going to discuss the supply and demand modalities of LPDDR5X RAM for the Galaxy S26 series. Memory prices have shot through the roof in recent months. Prices for the 12GB LPDDR5X module which is widely used in the Galaxy lineup soared from $33 early this year to over $70 as of November 2025.
Samsung DS makes LPDDR5X RAM as well but that doesn't get the mobile division any special treatment. A recent report had revealed that Samsung DS had shifted to quarterly price renegotiations for memory supply to the mobile division instead of the 12-month+ long-term deals previously done.
Micron was also a major supplier of DRAM for the Galaxy S25 series and it was already expected to supply the component for the Galaxy S26 lineup. Samsung DS probably wouldn't mind, as it's more focused on higher value opportunities in the high-bandwidth memory segment for AI chips.
