High school football is underway in the North Okanagan.
High school footy takes the spotlight next week.
Kalamalka Secondary Lakers will host the second OKGN Classic Senior Boys Soccer Tournament, set for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18 and 19.
All games in the eight-team tournament will be played at W.L. Seaton Secondary School's MacDonald Park.
The defending tournament champion Lakers are in a Pool with crosstown rivals Seaton Sonics, and the two foes will open the tourney on Field 1 at MacDonald Park Thursday, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m.
Joining the Lakers and Sonics in Pool A are the Salmon Arm Golds and Osoyoos Rattlers. They'll face each other at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Seaton will play Salmon Arm at 12:30 p.m., Kal takes on Osoyoos at 1:45 p.m., and the Lakers will conclude the preliminary round with their third game of opening day at 3:30 p.m. against Salmon Arm.
The Sonics finish pool play against Osoyoos Friday, Sept. 19, at 9:15 a.m.
Pool B will feature the Vernon Panthers, Rutland Thunder, LVR Grizzlies of Nelson, and the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops.
VSS opens their preliminary round Thursday, Sept. 18, on Field 2 against Rutland at 9:15 a.m. The Panthers will take on Valleyview at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, and close out the preliminary round Friday at 9:15 a.m. against the Grizzlies.
The Nelson school lost the final a year ago to Kalamalka.
The third- and fourth-place teams in each pool will play each other at 11:15 a.m. Friday.
The teams that finish second in the pools will battle for the tournament's bronze medal, while the top two teams in each group play for gold. Both medal games start at 12:45 p.m. Friday.
