James Corden has told fans 'we had to' as he opened up about the Gavin and Stacey finale.
The comedian took to Instagram to post a selfie of himself and co-writer Ruth Jones ahead of the show airing on Christmas Day.
The much-anticipated finale to the long-running sitcom saw huge questions answered, including whether Smithy said yes to Nessa's marriage proposal five years ago.

Posting the picture of the two writers on social media, James Corden revealed that he had watched the final episode live with Ruth Jones. He wrote: "We had to be together to watch tonight.
"We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin and Stacey. It has been the greatest privilege making this show over the past 17 years. We'll see you on BBC One at 9pm.
"The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last. Happy Christmas. x"
He was flooded with support in the comments, with one user writing: "Was one of the best episodes!!! Couldn't stop laughing. Woke up this morning thinking need to go watch all episodes again with this one."
Another added: "It's was absolutely amazing. Loved it! Tidy!"
A third said it was the 'perfect ending to Christmas Day', writing: "Wow just wow what a perfect end to Christmas Day. I loved it absolutely brilliant. I love the whole cast and don't want it to be the end. So so emotional well done for an amazing finale it was perfect."
The 'perfect' episode saw characters Smithy and Nessa finally get their happy ending, five years on from the Christmas proposal cliffhanger.
The 90-minute festive episode also revealed that Stacey's mother Gwen West was in a secret relationship with Nessa's ex Dave Coaches, and there was more drama between Dawn and Pete Sutcliffe.
However not everything was resolved, as fans will never know what actually happened on Brynn and Jason's infamous fishing trip.
Corden and Jones have both said this year's Christmas episode will be the last ever.
