Electricity rates for the first quarter of next year (January to March) will be frozen.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 22nd that it will keep the fuel cost adjustment unit rate for the first quarter of next year at 5 won per ㎾h (kilowatt-hour), the same as now.
Electricity rates consist of the basic charge, electricity usage charge, climate and environment charge, and fuel cost adjustment charge. Among these, the fuel cost adjustment unit rate determines the fuel cost adjustment charge that reflects changes in energy prices.
The fuel cost adjustment unit rate is set within a range of ±5 won per ㎾h, based on a comprehensive review of changes in fuel costs such as bituminous coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) over the past three months. Currently, the maximum level of +5 won is in effect.
With the fuel cost adjustment charge frozen at the current level and no separate changes to the basic charge, electricity usage charge, or climate and environment charge, electricity rates for the first quarter of next year will be frozen.
KEPCO stated, "For the fuel cost adjustment unit rate for the first quarter of next year, taking into account KEPCO financial conditions and the sizable amount of unadjusted fuel cost adjustment charges, we were notified by the government to continue applying +5 won per ㎾h, the same as in the fourth quarter of this year," and "we were also instructed to thoroughly implement self-help measures for the normalization of KEPCO management."
