(WGHP) -- Porch Pirates always seem to ruin the holiday spirit, but what tools can you use to prevent a Grinch from stealing your Christmas?
One of the latest porch pirate cases happened to Greensboro resident Sebastian Kemppainen.
"I ordered my fiancé the big gift of the year, and it showed up ... Not 10 minutes later, we see someone pull up in a Toyota and someone walking beside, and he just walked straight up to the door, grabbed it off," Kemppainen said.
That's how quickly porch pirates can attack.
According to a Greensboro police report, one hit Kemppainen's home off the 6100 block of Trotting Place on Tuesday afternoon. One day later, he's frustrated.
"Mostly, I was just infuriated because I worked for it. I feel like that's entitlement at its finest. Like someone just thinks they just deserve something like that when they didn't do anything to get it except walk up and grab it," Kemppainen said.
Once the thief ran away, he says it wasn't a pretty escape.
"My dog started barking, and he fell over in the front yard and got into his car," Kemppainen said.
During the holiday season, there's typically an uptick in porch pirate cases. To prevent being a porch pirate victim, there are security measures you can invest in.
Loxx Boxx is based in Winston-Salem.
Loxx Boxx founder Rod Sides says he created secure delivery boxes that he claims are porch pirate-proof.
"What happens is a carrier comes up, and they hit the power button. They put in the last four digits to the tracking number. The box pops open. They put it in. It locks as soon as they put it in. It sends you a notification [on your phone] and tells you that this code has been used. So whether you're home or not, you'll know the box is there, and you'll know that it's safe and secure. In the holidays, it's really important, especially with how many packages you get, to make sure those packages are delivered exactly when expected and you know its safe," Kemppainen said.
