The Miami Dolphins have Tua Tagovailoa back under center, which means the most recent signal caller to take a snap for the franchise is looking for new employment.
Miami cut Tim Boyle loose on Saturday, October 26, after elevating Tagovailoa to the active roster. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news via an X post.
"Dolphins officially activated quarterback Tua Tagovailoa off the injures reserve list and released quarterback Tim Boyle," Schefter wrote.
Tagovailoa has been sidelined for the past five weeks after suffering a concussion against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. He spent much of that time on the injured reserve list (IR).
The Dolphins went 1-3 in Tagovailoa's absence. The team's bye week was also part of the the QB's stretch on IR.
Miami (2-4) has stalled on offense with Skylar Thompson, Tyler Huntley and Boyle all playing significant snaps in Tagovailoa's absence.
Thompson suffered a rib injury in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, after which Boyle took over and struggled. The team then picked up Huntley off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
Huntley started three games, though he suffered a shoulder injury last week against the Indianapolis Colts, at which point Boyle took over again. In his two appearances, Boyle completed 15-of-26 passes for 153 yards. He threw zero TDs and accounted for zero INTs.
Huntley went 1-2 as the starter with 1 TD and 1 INT. Thompson is 0-1 as a starter this season and has thrown for 187 yards.
The Dolphins have scored just 40 total points in the four games that Tagovailoa has missed. The QB led the NFL in passing last season with 4,624 yards.
