Rajkot: Rajkot city's Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has launched a major fraud of promising a coveted post of District Superintendent of Police (DSP) as well as police sub-inspector allegedly orchestrated by a fake IPS officer and his accomplice. The hunt has been launched for Vivek alias Vicky Dave, who falsely claimed to be a senior IPS officer in-charge of two Indian states, and his accomplice Hari Gamara, after a complaint was filed by a livestock trader Jilu Gamara whom they cheated of Rs 1.48 crore.Over the last three years, Dave not just claimed to be a senior police officer but boasted of close connections with senior bureaucrats and ministers, promising Jilu of the police job for his son Rahul in exchange for large sums.Jilu told police that he had met Gamara in Dwarka and their families developed close ties.In 2021-22, Gamara visited Jilu's home and claimed that PSI recruitment was ongoing. He told Jilu that his acquaintance, Dave, had strong connections with political leaders and could ensure Rahul's selection. Believing him, Jilu spoke with Dave who demanded Rs 50 lakh for securing the post. Jilu paid Rs 15 lakh as advanc, but when the PSI merit list was declared, his son's name was missing. "Jilu transferred Rs 37.76 lakh to bank accounts belonging to Gamara's brother Ambabhai and to Dave, and later gave them Rs 1.98 crore in cash.
