Corsair's speedy new PCIe 5 SSD hits an ultra-swift 14,900 MB/s

The MP700 Pro XT is a new flagship in the company's internal storage line, though it's only available in 80mm and 1TB/2TB models at launch.

Corsair isn't the biggest name when it comes to storage, but it's certainly turning heads among gamers and enthusiasts. The MP700 series has some of the fastest SSDs around, and the newest member tops them all, at least according to the promotional material. The MP700 Pro XT is now available to order in 1TB and 2TB M.2 options.

These PCIe 5.0 drives are rated at 14,900 MB/s sequential write and 14,500 MB/s read, which would give them an almost 50 percent boost over the current MP700 Elite series (also PCIe 5.0). And according to PCWorld's review of that drive from about a year ago, Corsair can indeed hit its promotional benchmarks, at least under ideal conditions. That speed would also edge out our current pick for the best PCIe 5.0 drive on the market -- the TeamGroup Z450 -- by a considerable margin.

Corsair says that the 3D TLC NAND storage is an ideal mix of "performance, endurance, and value," and that its NVMe 2.0 setup is power-efficient. I'd wait for a full review before I took those claims at face value, but that shouldn't take too long. Both 1TB and 2TB drives are shipping now for $160 and $250, respectively. They're only available in 2280 format (80mm, full-size M.2) and without a heatsink, for now.
