Famed American country music legend, Dolly Parton, was forced to cancel a public appearance due to a health issue.

The queen of country music was scheduled to appear at her theme park Dollywood in Tennessee on Wednesday.

Dollywood is launching a a new attraction, the NightFlight Expedition, and Dolly was meant to attend the launch.

However, Dolly explained to her fans that she wouldn't be able to appear at the theme park because her doctor had advised her not to travel due to kidney stones.

The 79-year-old explained the situation in a pre-recorded video, apologising for missing the opening of one of the park's newest and most expensive attractions.

"I know. I'm here, you're there and you're wondering why that is. Well, I had a little problem. I had a kidney stone, which was causing me a lot of problems," she explained in the video, which was posted on social media.

Dolly said her doctor told her she needed to rest and recover and that she had an infection. She received medical advice that she should take a few days to get better and avoid travel. "So he suggested I don't go to Dollywood today. I want to make this clear, I was looking so forward to it," she added.

She expressed her disappointment, explaining that her and the Dollywood team had been working hard on the new attraction for the past three years. "They say it's the most expensive thing we've done, so it better be good," she joked.

The new attraction is the NightFlight Expedition, which is an indoor ride that will take theme park goers on an journey through the Great Smoky Mountains. The real mountains are located near Dollywood and often feature in Dolly's song writing.

The ride is scheduled to open in spring 2026 and cost over $50 million.

Dolly also reassured fans that she would be okay. "I'll be back just as quick as I can be. Don't worry about me, I'm going to be okay. I just can't do it today."

This setback comes after a hard year for Dolly. Back in March, her husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, passed away at the age of 82.

While Dolly has been on stage and screen for years, Carl opted for a quiet life away from the spotlight. The pair were rarely photographed together, but fans of Dolly knew Carl was always in the background, supporting her in his own quiet way.
