Care home residents thank emergency services with coffee and cake

Residents and staff at a local care home showed their appreciation for emergency services by hosting a coffee and cake event.

Parley Place care home in West Parley celebrated Emergency Services Day by inviting a local fire crew to join them for coffee and cake.

The home also gifted the fire crew a hamper of treats to thank them for their dedication to keeping the community safe.

Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day, is an event that recognises the efforts of the two million people who work in the UK's emergency services.

"We think they are truly wonderful human beings."

Alan, a resident at Parley Place care home, said: "I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to go into a burning building to rescue someone or to turn up at the scene of a major incident not knowing what you are going to have to deal with.
