SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- As Women's History Month is in full swing, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH) celebrates with its 2nd annual HERstory event Thursday evening.
In partnership with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and Lookout Santa Cruz, the MAH is Celebrating Women Past, Present and Future--as the name of the event suggests.
"This event will highlight the contributions of notable women in Santa Cruz and beyond," according to the museum.
The event is free and aimed to create an engaging atmosphere to promote learning, empowerment as well as community involvement.
The MAH says that the "event will feature a series of inspiring speeches, an interactive HerStory game session, tabling from a variety of women-focused organizations, a hands-on art project, and a special performance from the Harbor High School Dance Team."
In addition to this, the museum says that event attendees will hear from Bettina Aptheker (professor at UC Santa Cruz), Yvette Lopez Brooks (CEO of United Way of Santa Cruz County) and Madeline Aliah (a student from Cypress High School). These speakers will share their stories and the impact they've had on the Santa Cruz community.
The event will be emceed and DJ'd by Ginger Porcella who is also the new Executive Director at the Santa Cruz MAH.
"We are thrilled to bring this event to life and celebrate the remarkable women of Santa Cruz," said Stephanie Sumarna, EdTech & Innovation Teacher on Special Assignment at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. "Our goal is to honor their achievements, inspire future generations, and continue to build a strong, supportive community."
Event attendees can expect the following schedule:
It is happening Thursday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the MAH located at 705 Front Street in Santa Cruz.
