TICONDEROGA -- A man who allegedly faked credentials to try to get an $80,000 loan from a Ticonderoga financial institution found himself under arrest recently.
Zachery Austin, 30, of Ticonderoga was charged with second-degree forgery, a felony, and second-degree grand larceny, also a felony, by Ticonderoga Town Police.
Police said he went to TrailNorth Credit Union in Ticonderoga and submitted a forged loan application with intent to defraud the credit union out of more than $80,000.
A verification by credit union staff showed the information Austin submitted was allegedly false.
Austin was arrested Dec. 28 by Ticonderoga Police and arraigned in Ticonderoga Justice Court. He was released on his own recognizance under the state cashless bail law.
In August 2024, Austin was sued by Synchrony Bank of Stamford, Conn. for allegedly failing to pay a $6,504 credit card bill. The card was an Amazon Store Card issued by Synchrony.
The case is pending in State Supreme Court of Essex County, according to the Trellis legal information site.
