On Friday, December 20, HBO announced that Dune: Prophecy will be coming back for a second season, sharing the news during a virtual press conference with showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker and series stars Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. The renewal comes ahead of season one's finale on Sunday, December 22.
Max original programming head Sarah Aubrey said in a statement,"Dune: Prophecy has captivated audiences around the globe thanks to the visionary leadership of showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker, who will continue to guide this grand tale of truth and power." She continued, "We're excited to collaborate with this team again to see what they have in store."
So, what is in store? Here's everything we know about the popular prequel Dune: Prophecy's second season.
The show is a prequel series to Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies, taking place 10,000 years before Paul Atreides comes into power. It's inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's novel Sisterhood of Dune, following the two Harkonnen sisters (Watson and Williams in the series) as they create the early iteration of Bene Gesserit, the sect that will eventually dominate the great empires of the Dune universe. The sisters face off against Desmond Hart, played by Travis Fimmel, so their dynamic will probably be explored further in season two.
"How the sisterhood survives is very much a part of season two," said Schapker during the announcement.
The show will welcome back Watson and Williams, and most likely Fimmel. Other recurring cast in season one included Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, and Barbara Marten. Ha will notably be starring in the next season of Bridgerton, which could potentially conflict with her role on Dune.
