#PortalSZN is off to a great start for Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines, as they just landed former Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley out of the transfer portal.

After Michigan won The Game for the fourth straight year, McCulley took a visit to Ann Arbor upon the football team's arrival from Columbus. On3's Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos logged predictions for the Wolverines to land McCulley shortly after that rivalry win.

However, this wasn't a slam dunk recruitment as it originally appeared. Oklahoma got him to visit and made it a real fight for the Wolverines, while Virginia Tech was also a legitimate contender.

McCulley has spent the last four seasons with the Hoosiers. In his junior season, the 6-foot-5, 195-pounder led Indiana in catches (48), receiving yards (644) and touchdowns (six). McCulley got off to a rough start this season after sustaining an upper-body injury in Indiana's season opener against FIU, and he re-entered the portal in October.

It does bring you caution to think McCulley essentially played no part in Indiana football's resurgence in what has arguably been its best season in program history, but the talent is obviously there and Michigan fans know the Wolverine receiving room could certainly use more of that.

After a productive 2023 season, on paper, it appears McCulley could slide in as Michigan's No. 1 receiver as long as he can stay healthy. He'd join a receiving core that has solid contributors, including Semaj Morgan, Frederick Moore and Kendrick Bell, but lacks a true No. 1 option with tight end Colston Loveland off to the NFL.

Michigan also has three freshmen receivers joining the roster in four-star Andrew Marsh, four-star Jacob Washington and three-star Jamar Browder, so there's plenty of depth in the receiving room.

McCulley is the first of probably many players to commit to Michigan out of the transfer portal this December. Stay locked in with Maize n Brew during what's expected to be a busy portal window in Ann Arbor.
