Bills vs. Lions injury update: Buffalo pass catchers may return against banged-up Detroit

The Buffalo Bills have been stricken with injures but multiple players have returned from injured reserve. Then there are the Detroit Lions.

Detroit has 18 players on injured reserve.

Buffalo (10-3) could get wide receiver Keon Coleman and tight end Dalton Kincaid back from multigame absences when they travel to Detroit (12-1) at 4:25 p.m. Sunday. They'd add more firepower to a Bills offense that has scored at least 30 points in seven straight games.

Bills linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle DeWayne Carter returned from injured reserve in back-to-back weeks, but Buffalo lost cornerback Rasul Douglas and defensive end Casey Toohill to injuries in their 44-42 shootout loss to the Rams in Week 14.

Detroit is the No. 1 seed in the NFC and riding a 10-game winning streak despite a deluge of injuries to its defensive line.

The Lions have six defensive linemen on injured reserve and four more - DTs Alim McNeill, DJ Reader and Levi Onwuzurike and DE Josh Paschal - either missed the Lions' playoff-clinching 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football or were hurt during the game.

Six of the Lions' top 13 tacklers this season could be out against the Bills if those four players can't go. Aidan Hutchinson, who remains in the top 20 among NFL sack leaders but hasn't played in two months, broke his tibia and fibula in Week 6. Linebacker Alex Anzalone suffered a broken forearm in Week 11.

NFL teams have to submit a report on practice participation on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for a Sunday game. There are three levels of practice participation that can be designated: did not participate, limited participation and full participation.

A game status report is due by 5 p.m. Friday for Sunday games.

Here is the Bills vs. Lions injury report for Week 15:

Keon Coleman has missed four straight games with an injured wrist. He returned to practice two weeks ago as a limited participant and was questionable to play against the 49ers in Week 13 and Rams in Week 14, but was inactive both games.

The Bills elected not to place Coleman on injured reserve, meaning they believed he had a good chance at being back within that window.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott didn't provide much of an update Monday on Coleman, or tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Quintin Morris.

"Keon, Dalton, Quintin, I think we'll all just have to see," McDermott said. "They're doing better."

Coleman hurt his right wrist on a receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet hit by Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer on the Bills' game-winning drive on Nov. 3 in Week 9. Poyer was flagged for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the hit, which jarred the ball loose on a deep pass attempt from Josh Allen. The penalty extended Buffalo's drive, enabling Tyler Bass' 61-yard field goal for the 30-27 win.

Coleman held his wrist as he walked to the sideline. He headed to the locker room in the final seconds and was wearing a brace on the wrist after the game.

Dalton Kincaid has missed the last three games with a knee injury.

He left the Bills' Week 10 win over the Colts in the first quarter, injuring his left knee diving for a ball. He went into the medical tent and locker room and returned to the sideline wearing a brace on his left knee. Kincaid came back for two snaps in the third quarter. He was initially ruled questionable to return but was downgraded to doubtful and did not come back to play.

Kincaid returned to practice last week as a limited participant three consecutive days but was inactive in Week 14 against the Rams.

Rasul Douglas left the Week 14 to the loss to the Rams twice, but didn't return after his second injury.

Douglas was sideswiped by teammate Taylor Rapp as Cooper Kupp made an acrobatic 18-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. Rapp lowered a shoulder into Douglas' left side and back. Douglas was tended to by medical staff on the field but walked off under his own power. He returned for the next defensive series but left three plays later with a knee injury and did not return.

"Rasul and Casey (Toohill) were banged up in the game there," Bills head coach Sean McDermott said in his postgame press conference. "I don't have all the information yet so I'll know a little bit more probably later today and get that to you guys on Wednesday."

Casey Toohill was injured in the third quarter against the Rams and did not return.

DeWayne Carter returned from injured reserve in Week 14 against the Rams. Buffalo chose to have Carter active over veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips for the game.

Carter played with a brace on his right wrist. He played 24 of 77 defensive snaps, 31.2%, and did not record a tackle.

The rookie third-round pick suffered a wrist injury that required surgery on Oct. 27. Buffalo opened his practice window on Nov. 27.

Carter played in the first seven games, with nine tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and one pass defensed.

The Bills opened the 21-day practice window for rookie Tylan Grable on Nov. 27. Grable was a full participant prior to Week 13 and Week 14 but did not play in either game.

The sixth-round pick suffered an abdomen injury in Buffalo's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Quintin Morris was inactive in Week 14 against the Rams after being listed as questionable on the final injury report. Buffalo elevated tight end Zach Davidson to be the second tight end behind Dawson Knox.

Matt Milano was activated off injured reserve and made his season debut in the Bills' 35-10 thumping of the 49ers in Week 13 and wasn't exactly eased in. Milano started and played 37 defensive snaps, 77%, finishing with five tackles.

That playing time ticked up to 65 of 77 defensive snaps, 84%, with three total tackles in the Week 14 loss to the Rams.

The following Bills players are on injured reserve:

Alim McNeill is in the league concussion protocol.

He went to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion in the first quarter but returned to start the second quarter. McNeill did not play in the second half due to the head injury.

Taylor Decker has missed two straight games with knee and ankle injuries. Decker was a 2016 first-round pick by the Lions and has started 122 career games.

"I'm feeling better about Decker," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Monday.

Levi Onwuzurike suffered a hamstring injury in Week 13 against the Chicago Bears and missed Week 14's Thursday Night Football victory over the Green Bay Packers on a short week.

"There's a chance (Onwuzurike) could be back," Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said Monday.

Josh Paschal missed the win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 14.

DJ Reader has been nursing an injured shoulder. He played through the injury in a win over the Chicago Bears in Week 13 and had two sacks, four tackles and three quarterback hits, but sat out Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers.
