Victoria councillor announces re-election bid as 2026 municipal gears up - Victoria News

As the new year approaches, councillors and mayors across Greater Victoria are beginning to gear up for the fall 2026 municipal elections.

Among them is Victoria councillor Jeremy Caradonna, who has announced he is seeking re-election to council and as a Capital Regional District (CRD) director.

In a statement released this week, Caradonna said he is hoping to build on the achievements of his first term, which began in 2023.

Caradonna pointed to housing as a major focus, noting council approved nearly 9,000 new homes, including a mix of non-market and rental housing, and adopted the city's first family housing policy.

Other highlights of his tenure include the adoption of the city's first Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan, the expansion of cycling infrastructure, upgrades to parks and recreation facilities, and the successful referendum to replace Crystal Pool.

Caradonna also cited investments in arts and culture, reconciliation initiatives with local First Nations, and climate action, including a reported 31 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2007.

At the regional level, Caradonna said he played a role in advancing a new CRD transportation service, funding for regional performing arts facilities, and overseeing more than 1,000 new affordable homes as vice-chair of the Capital Region Housing Corporation.

Looking ahead to 2026, Caradonna said his focus will be on community safety, sustainable urban growth, affordable housing and increased investment in community infrastructure.
