Craig Charles said he is "proud to be a Scouser" as he was inducted into the Liverpool Legends Hall of Fame. The Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street welcomed a whole host of celebrities on Thursday, November 20 as part of the opening of the "Liverpool Legends Hall of Fame".
From starting off their careers in a small Merseyside town to going on to achieve great things, the new exhibition showcases everyone from the worlds of film, theatre, television, radio, entertainment and sport. It celebrates the best of some of our own famous faces and everything they have achieved over the years.
Craig Charles is among the group of "legends" who were invited to take part by providing unique items for the exhibition as a symbol for their dazzling careers.
The ECHO was in attendance for Thursday night's star-studded event, as the "legends" made their way onto the red carpet on Mathew Street. They enjoyed a welcome drink on arrival before the impressive exhibition was revealed to guests.
Craig Charles was asked to give something to the exhibition. The legendary DJ has become a household name on both radio and television.
He is known for his role as Dave Lister in Red Dwarf and Lloyd Mullaney in Coronation Street. He also presented the gladiator-style game show Robot Wars from 1998 to 2004.
Charles went to school with Roag Best, who owns the Liverpool Beatles Musuem on Mathew's Street. Telling the ECHO why he agreed to donate something for the display, he said: "It's Liverpool isn't it."
He continued: "I went to school with Roag who owns the museum and he phoned me up and said he wanted me to be one of the Liverpool Legends."
There's a huge range of items on display in the museum, including Sunetra Sarker's Strictly Come Dancing shoes, a huge wall art piece provided by Les Dennis and one of Cilla Black's iconic dresses.
Craig decided to donate his iconic Robot Wars jacket. He said: "I don't wear the Robot Wars jacket, that would be odd wouldn't it. I don't walk around the street wearing that so I gave it to them and it's such an honour really."
Our city is filled with stars from every area of showbiz and Craig spoke about how special Liverpool is.
He told the ECHO: "Roag reckons there is something in the water. Liverpool is a very creative city. It's always had an identity of its own and part of its own course."
He added: "Red and Blue come together at times and I've always been proud to be a Scouser and I'll continue to be so."
To name just a few of the other stars who have provided items for the exhibition include Tony Bellew, John Bishop, Sir Phil Redmond, Wayne Rooney, John Conteh, Leanne Best, The Vivienne and Sunetra Sarker.
