The Taubman Company LLC will permanently close its corporate office in Bloomfield Hills in January 2026, laying off more than 100 employees.
According to a WARN notice filed with the state last week, the job losses will begin Jan. 9, with 105 employees ultimately affected at the Bloomfield Hills office at 200 East Long Lake Road.
The closure, first reported by Crain's Detroit Business, follows Simon Property Group's acquisition of Taubman Realty Group, finalized earlier this month when Simon acquired the remaining 12% interest in Taubman in exchange for 5.06 million limited‑partnership units. It's a deal that began in 2020.
In Michigan, Taubman most recently owned Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills. Company founder A. Alfred Taubman, who was born in Pontiac, started developing shopping malls in the 1950s. He died at age 91 in 2015.
At the time of the acquisition earlier this month, Simon Property Group said: "This acquisition aligns with our strategy of owning high-quality assets, unlocking operational synergies and driving further innovation. With full ownership of TRG, we are well-positioned to capitalize on new growth opportunities, increase net operating income and deliver long-term returns to our shareholders."
