A commanding 72% of New Patriotic Party (NPP) voters who supported Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 election are standing firmly with him, according to a new national poll by Global InfoAnalytics, a clear signal that his core support base remains unshaken and positions him as the candidate to beat in the January 2026 flagbearership election.
The September 2025 poll, which dissects the preferences of the NPP's electoral base, reveals a bedrock of loyalty for the Vice President that has endured past the party's electoral defeat.
With nearly three out of every four of his previous voters still firmly in his camp, compared to 20% who now prefer Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA), Dr Bawumia enters the critical delegate election phase with a significant reservoir of grassroots support.
This level of retention is exceptional and is the most critical metric for any frontrunner.
"It demonstrates that despite the broader political challenges, Dr Bawumia's connection with the party's rank and file is incredibly resilient.
"This provides him with a formidable launchpad for January."
Bawumia in a clear lead - Global Info Analytics polls suggest
The data from the Ashanti Region, the NPP's stronghold, further cements this advantage.
Here, 73% of NPP voters who backed DMB in 2024 continue to do so, underscoring his deep integration into the party's most vital electoral engine.
The poll also uncovered a notable strength for Dr Bawumia among disgruntled NPP voters in the Ashanti Region who voted for the NDC's John Dramani Mahama (JDM) in the last election.
While this demographic is split nationally, a striking 63% of them in Ashanti now prefer Dr Bawumia to lead the NPP, dwarfing the 21% who support KOA.
This suggests a unique ability to win back the party's estranged base in the region that matters most.
The focus now shifts to the party's delegates, the ultimate deciders.
The Global InfoAnalytics team has commenced its October 2025 delegates polls, which will measure if this overwhelming voter support translates into delegate commitment.
With a solid foundation and key regional strengths, Dr Bawumia, according to the latest numbers, appears to be on a steady course to clinch the NPP's flagbearership in January.
