The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday rose from a crucial meeting in Abuja where a former Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabir Tanimu Turaki, SAN was adopted as a concensus candidate ahead of its national convention slated for Ibadan, the Oyo state capital in November, 2025.
Addressing newsmen after about three hours meeting involving stakeholders from the 19 northern states, the governor of Adamawa state, Umar Fintiri, said it was a collective decision.
At the meeting were former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, former minister of Information and party chieftain, Prof Jerry Gana, the minority leader, Senator Aba Moro, and other party leaders.
When asked whether the endorsement would not fester crisis already plaguing the party, the governor said: "Our decision was a collective one but would not stop any interested persons to pick form as we won't stop any aspirant for the position to do so from doing so."
Before this latest development, rumours made the rounds that the former governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Sule Lamido, former Kaduna state governor, Senator Ahmed Markarfi and another former governor of Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau were interested in the job.
