Lesser known network launches £5 phone plan to rival Sky Mobile and giffgaff | Bristol Live

A lesser-known mobile network called spusu, is giving major brands like Sky and giffgaff a run for their money with its £5 phone plan. Originating in Austria before branching out to Italy and Switzerland, spusu made its UK debut in 2023, offering an array of SIM-only plans that can be used both domestically and within the EU.

Living up to its slogan 'simple. fair. for you,' spusu offers just three straightforward plans, starting at £4.90 per month for its 5GB SIM. Right now, the network is also running a special deal offering its 60GB SIM-only deal for £12.90, but this is set to expire on October 30.

With spusu, there's no need for long-term commitment either, as each deal operates on a flexible 30-day rolling plan. This applies to all spusu SIM-only deals, which automatically renew at the end of each month unless cancelled.

In addition to unlimited minutes and texts in the UK, spusu's plans also include allowances for use within the EU. Customers have the flexibility to switch their plan if they need more data or want to reduce costs, reports the Mirror.

Here are the latest spusu SIM-only deals:.

All three plans also offer additional benefits such as free EU roaming and international calls to the EU, with eSIMs, 5G, WiFi Calling, and VoLTE included at no extra charge. However, some smartphones are not compatible with spusu services such as WiFi Calling and VoLTE, so customers should check the website before signing up.

The brand also makes switching easy by allowing new members to retain their phone number and cancel their old plan. Spusu guarantees reliable coverage powered by EE and without any speed caps or restrictions, but customers are advised to use its coverage checker before making a commitment.

Spusu's plans compete with major brands like Sky, where the 60GB SIM-only has been reduced from £22 to £14 in an introductory offer that saves £96. However, customers must commit to a 12-month contract to take advantage of this deal.

Elsewhere, giffgaff recently started offering its unlimited everything SIM-only for £15. Usually priced at £25, this deal saves £180 over the life of the 18-month term.

But spusu has won over consumers, accumulating plenty of positive feedback on Trustpilot. One five-star review said: "The switch was smooth, and keeping my old number happened on schedule a few days after purchase. Friendly customer service. The phone and data connection seem excellent. 10 out of 10."

Another customer added: "The whole experience from the quick setup with eSim, the comprehensive app and the full benefits of EE's network at a fraction of the price, has been superb. Having a compatible phone is essential, and Spusu's website clearly states which ones are. Best of all is their customer service, quick to reply, UK-based and extremely helpful."

A separate review did however, highlight a minor issue with their spusu plan, noting: "Moved from Three and spusu have been quick, helpful, transparent and changing with PAC was easy. My only gripe is that they don't yet seem to offer a carry forward of unused data."

Most customers where impressed, with a further glowing review saying: "The customer service is second to none."
