CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - People living in historic Charleston may be living in homes they own but cannot make changes to - at least, not without the permission of the City.
There is a certain process required for City residents to make changes to their historic homes - even for something small like new paint or replacing a window.
City leaders say that in the past year, they have found more and more people needing approval from the Board of Architectural Review without even realizing it.
So, their hope is to educate the community on the submittal and permit processes as well as the basic standards of the board.
At a new workshop Thursday, they will discuss things like how the submittal process works, where to find resources to answer questions, how to do historic research on homes. They will also discuss how to rectify a change that may have already been made to a home without approval.
This workshop will take place at the Gaillard Center from noon until 1 p.m.
Anyone who cannot attend but still wants the information from the workshop will be able to watch a video at this link that will be posted after the meeting.
