HIV/Aids sensitisation in Makueni

HIV/Aids sensitisation in Makueni

The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), has conducted school sensitisation programmes in eight counties, to address new HIV infections, gender-based violence and teenage pregnancies. Speaking in Makueni County, NSDCC Director of Health Promotion and Programme Management Dr. Stephen Ndolo, said school caregivers were trained on the triple threats and other syndemic diseases, including HIV and sexually transmitted infections. He noted that Kenya recorded about 19,000 new HIV infections in 2025, with nearly 3,000 cases among youths aged 15 to 24, most of whom are learners. This has prompted NSDCC, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, to focus interventions in schools. National HIV prevalence stands at three per cent, while Makueni County records 1.8 per cent, underscoring the need for continued sensitisation.
