Inside derelict pub left empty for years after new plans submitted

New plans have given a glimpse inside a derelict former pub in Devizes that was left abandoned for years.

As previously reported, work has been ongoing to convert the old Royal Oak pub on New Park Street into housing.

Construction started earlier this year to turn the old Fullers pub, which closed over a decade ago and was briefly an antiques store, into multiple residential apartments.

The prominent building had sat empty for several years until it was bought by Peterside Developments in June, despite the previous owner already having planning permission for this scheme.

Fenibo Peterside, founder and director of Peterside Developments, has now applied to Wiltshire Council to change the design of the approved housing development.

An extensive schedule of changes has been submitted for alterations to different flats in the development.

The applicant says the changes are "sympathetic and appropriate" and would not significantly alter the new use of the building.

Planning documents include a range of pictures that show both inside and outside the former pub, giving an idea of its current state.

A design, access and heritage statement added: "The property is in need of substantial renovation and repair... the existing exterior finish to the building has deteriorated considerably."
