By Ron Maehl -- Cornhole Under the Lights returns Saturday, Sept. 20 to Carson City's Centennial Park with a night tournament to raise money for local youth sports.
There are two distinct tournaments, both with cash payouts, going on at the same time, with 100 percent payout to players after a 50 percent donation to the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department Foundation for youth sports. At least $600 has been added to the pot so far, with the tournament open to men and women.
For those looking to stay overnight, dry RV camping is allowed. Sign-in and practice begins at 6 p.m., with tournament fun beginning at 7 p.m. Fun raffle prizes and an air mail or other contests are also planned.
ADVANCED DIVISION:
You know who you are. Three (3)rounds to determine seating in a double elimination bracket. $80/team.
BYOP, but combined team SPR must be 15.50 or under at time of sign-in on Saturday, Sept. 20. So when signing in, it might be good to leave a couple tenths (+/- 0.20) of wiggle room in your combined total unless you are signing up on tourney day.
Scoreholio has been known to adjust SPR & PPR based on a 120 day rolling schedule, whether you've just played or not, so keep an eye on your numbers!
Lots of players still need partners! Yes, we know, it takes a little "lean out of the old comfort zone" to communicate and play with someone you don't normally throw with, but it'll be a blast, relatively fair across the board for some decent coin, AND it supports a great cause, the youth sports league of the Carson City Parks and Recreation Division Foundation!
So, what are ya'll waiting for? Get partnered and signed up before someone else snaps up your purrrrfect PPR partner.
BACKYARD/CASUAL/BEGINNERS DIVISION
$20/person cash at sign-in: No need for a partner here because it will be done using a Switcholio format. 3 round robin games with different partners with your individual results determining who you'll be partnered with in the double elimination bracket. Therefore 5 games at least are guaranteed for just a $20 investment which goes to benefit Carson youth!!
No bags? No worries! Top quality bags will be available for check-out. No popcorn bags allowed and no chalk of any kind allowed on our professional quality boards. If you have a Scoreholio PPR rating, it must be 6.50 or UNDER at the time of sign in on Saturday, Sept. 20. However, anyone can sign up with anyone else for advanced if your team PPR is on or under 15.50 at sign-in time, so no PPR, no worries!
You know the backyard division is for you if:
1] you consider yourself 'King or Queen of the Camp'
2] you're the best or loudest armchair quarterback in the league
3] you've seen cornhole on TV and said...'Hey, that looks easy'
4] you've got a big heart and want to have the most legal fun you've ever had while supporting Carson City youth sports
5] you're looking for and enjoy meeting, mixing and having FUN with new people in a clean environment
6] you just want to challenge your bestie & try your luck to find out who really is the 'bestie'
7] your 'fun mon' jar is running low and you're looking to replenish your stash
8] you haven't played competitively before but would like a FREE First Play entry at our weekly Thursday 6pm league at the Carson Mall ($10 value, with 90% paid out each week!)
9] you're scratching your head and wondering..."What the heck is a PPR"?
Seriously Northern Nevadans, this is a fun tourney in a great environment, with great equipment and for a great cause! For easier check in at the tourney, please download the free app at scoreholio.com here then click on 'Find a Club', then click on Sierra Nevada Cornhole, then click tournaments and then click on Backyard & then click on "register."
However, if you're tech-challenged like me, just show up around 6ish p.m. with a smile and your "funitude" on and we'll get you checked in!
NOTE: Food and drinks are available from Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department kiosk. No outside food or drink allowed. Bring your favorite folding chair! Remember, dry RV camping in the parking lot is okay, as we'll play until the fun is done!
Centennial Park is located with different complexes accessible via Centennial Park Drive and Heritage Way.
