Jon Jones is widely considered to be the greatest UFC fighter of all time, and has certainly defeated the best of multiple eras.
The New York native just defended his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, and appears to be heading towards the end of his career. Prior to winning gold up at 265lb last year, he was one of the most decorated light-heavyweights ever with a number of big name victories.
He took on the likes of Rampage Jackson, Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson during his run at 205lb. And aside from one freak disqualification for a rule that has since been changed, Jones defeated every opponent in his way.
To find the hardest punch Jon Jones took in his career, he says fans will have to go back to April of 2012. Then still in his early 20s, the future of the sport took on a more veteran name in Rashad Evans in his third defence of the light-heavyweight title.
In that fight, he says he took an overhand right that had him on skates, and had previously knocked out world champions such as Chuck Liddell. Speaking with Adin Ross during a stream where the pair trained together, Jones explained how hard he was hit.
"The hardest punch I ever received was from a guy named Suga Rashad Evans," he said. "He caught me with an overhand right, the same exact punch he hit Chuck Liddell with and dropped him, he caught me with that same punch.
"It wasn't that he hit me so hard, it was the speed of the punch. It was almost like, you can tighten up or you can just let your arm be loose and let it swing. It's kind of like an overhand slap, bro, he hit me so fast and I had no clue what it was.
"He just caught me right at the edge of my chin and I remember my feet were to a point where I couldn't control my legs. Then I refocused and I was able to stand again, but bro that was by far the fastest I've ever been hit and thank God I didn't become unconscious because I probably should have been."
Another big night in Jones' career just happened at UFC 309 last month as he defeated the most decorated heavyweight of all time in Stipe Miocic. He defeated the Ohio native in three rounds, and proceeded to celebrate with President-elect Donald Trump.
"Tonight was incredibly special," Jones told the media in his post-fight press conference. "Finishing Daniel Cormier [in a fight that has since been ruled a No Contest] is up there too. Stephan Bonnar was the first star that I fought as a young man.
"Everybody around me told me that I was no one and that I couldn't do it and I had to really work on meditation and bringing up my self-esteem for the first time to beat Stephan Bonnar. Mauricio 'Shogun' taught me that I could be great.
"Kid from a small town, never great at anything, I became a champion. D.C., it was just very personal. And tonight, tonight is the biggest moment of my life.
"To talk about Jesus in front of our president and let the world know how truly proud I am to be an American champion, it felt awesome, man. To finish Stipe, it felt awesome."
