The Sejm, the lower house of Polish parliament, has urged the government to initiate actions aimed to relocate the Russian embassy in Warsaw, whose area borders Poland's defence ministry buildings.
The problem of the uneasy proximity of the Russian diplomatic mission to the defence ministry of Poland, a member of NATO, has been raised by Polish politicians for many years, but never acted upon due to the sensitivity of diplomatic relations with Moscow. However, the intensifying acts of sabotage taking place across Poland, which Warsaw blames on Moscow, have spurred parliament to speak out.
On Friday, the Sejm adopted a resolution "on the urgent need to secure the area surrounding the Ministry of National Defence," in which it urged the government to take action, with respect for international law, aimed to relocate the Russian embassy,
The resolution was passed by 439 votes, with no-one against and one abstention.
The MPs also urged the government to bolster the counter-intelligence and anti-drone protection of the defence ministry, the nearby Belvedere Palace, where the Polish president and his family live, and the Prime Minister's Office, which is also located close by. (PAP)
