Prince William's adorable moment with baby as he gets awkward gift for his own kids

Prince William's adorable moment with baby as he gets awkward gift for his own kids

The Prince of Wales spent his second day in Brazil meeting children and exploring some of its most unique flora and fauna.

Prince William was on the island of Paquetá, in Guanabara Bay, which had declared Tuesday 'The Day of the Prince', giving students the day off school.

William, 43, travelled to the island, about an hour from Rio de Janeiro, on a naval boat and toured its mangroves before meeting the locals.

Hundreds had waited along the small island harbour to see the future King and he rewarded them with an impromptu walkabout where he spent time speaking to the crowds and posing for selfies.

Prince William noticed 10-month-old baby Joaquim Monteiro, who was being held by his grandmother Christina, and went over to say hello.

He then picked up the baby boy and gave him a little cuddle.

Yesterday Prince William had been gifted souvenirs for his own three children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, on his first day in the South American country.

But one of the gifts had a glaring mistake.

During a visit to Maracana stadium, where he met former Brazilian defender Cafu and kicked a ball with school kids, William was presented with personalised Fluminese FC jerseys.

They each had the Wales' children's names printed on the back.

But Prince Louis' name was spelt incorrectly, as 'Loui'.

William was also given a signed jersey from Cafu.

Later on his first day in Rio de Janeiro, the prince played volleyball on Copacabana Beach.

Prince William is in Brazil for the fifth installation of his landmark climate awards, the Earthshot Prize

Each of the five winners receive £1m to fund their work to find solutions to some of the world's most pressing issues.

Later today, the prince will attend an event for United for Wildlife.

He is due to announce a five-year program to support indigenous people and indigenous environmental defenders in Brazil.

William said: "Indigenous peoples and local communities have long been protectors of the world's most critical ecosystems. But today, their lives are increasingly at risk, and their lands are under mounting threats.

"If we are serious about tackling the climate crisis and restoring nature, we must stand with those who defend it."

The Earthshot Prize awards will be held on Wednesday local time inside Rio's Museum of Tomorrow, with Kylie Minogue and Shawn Mendes among the performers.

Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen are also involved.

On Thursday, the prince will travel on to the Cop30 global climate change summit in Belem in the Amazon. William will attend the event on behalf of King Charles.
