Chinese travelling equipment manufacturer Wanxinda's subsidiary in Myanmar, Wanxinda (Myanmar) Travel Good Co., Ltd, is alleged to have bribed officials of Myanmar's military government and local labor authorities to orchestrate the arrest of trade union organizers from the Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM).
According to reports, those detained include prominent labor leader Myo Myo Aye, along with Thin Htet San, Myint Myint Khaing, Su Myat Nwe, Thiha Tun, Zaw Htike, Zaw San Naing, Kyaw Thet Naing, Hay Mhan Oo, June Two Maung, and Myo Myo Aye's daughter, Chue Thwel.
The company, which operates a factory in Yangon, allegedly sought to suppress growing labor rights actions by accusing union members of "illegal association" under Myanmar's restrictive Registration of Associations Law.
The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre reached out to Wanxinda Enterprise Group Co. Ltd. for response. The company did not respond.
