Michael Proctor drops bid for reinstatement with Massachusetts State Police

Former Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor has stopped fighting to get his job back.

Proctor's service commission hearings were supposed to resume this week, but he has withdrawn his appeal.

Proctor was fired after sending inappropriate text messages while investigating Karen Read.

Several defense attorneys in high-profile criminal cases that Proctor investigated, including Brian Walshe's case, are trying to secure Proctor-related evidence used in the Read case.

Defense attorneys also got a ruling from a judge on more access to Proctor's personal cell phone data.

A motion filed in court also has revealed that 13 years of data on Proctor's personal cellphone that was deleted has been discovered on the cloud.

A spokesperson for the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said it has asked for more time to get that data together because of how large it is.
