Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has projected that several Arab nations are likely to normalise relations with Israel once the ongoing Gaza war concludes. Speaking to Al Arabiya and Al Hadath kn Wednesday, October 8, Abdelatty confirmed that indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel are underway in Sharm El-Sheikh, with pivotal regional participation and active US involvement.
He credited US President Donald Trump's administration with advancing a multi-stage peace framework that includes halting hostilities, releasing detainees, facilitating humanitarian aid, and affirming commitments to a Palestinian state. Abdelatty underscored that sustainable peace in the Middle East hinges on both security and development.
The Egyptian official revealed that the Sharm El-Sheikh discussions are also considering an international peacekeeping deployment and an Israeli redeployment plan as preliminary steps toward a full withdrawal from Gaza. However, he cautioned that key disagreements remain unresolved, including Hamas's demands for high-profile prisoner releases and assurances that Israel will not resume military operations post-ceasefire.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's call for greater international pressure on Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, warning of famine-level conditions.
