Apple TV+ has greenlit Lucky, a new limited series starring by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit, The Menu) and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon. Based on the Marissa Stapley's New York Times Bestselling novel of the same name, Lucky features Taylor-Joy, who will also executive produce, as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.
This marks Taylor-Joy's first TV project since another limited series based on a novel, The Queen's Gambit on Netflix in 2020, which earned her an Emmy nomination and Golden Globe and SAG Awards.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Lucky will be written, executive produced and co-showrun by Jonathan Tropper (upcoming Your Friends & Neighbors, See) through his Tropper Ink banner, alongside Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda). The series will be executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Anya Taylor-Joy will executive produce through her production banner Ladykiller.
Lucky is the latest collaboration between Apple TV+ and Hello Sunshine, which includes The Morning Show, The Last Thing He Told Me, and Surface. The streaming service also teamed up with Taylor-Joy for the upcoming original thriller film The Gorge, which follows two highly trained operatives who are appointed to posts across a vast and very secret gorge.
