Now that the league prepares for a formal review of the situation, former NFL star Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson has come forward with a direct claim supporting Metcalf. According to him, the confrontation that day was sparked by a racial slur and an insult directed at Metcalf's family.
The confrontation unfolded late in the first half near the Steelers' bench. Footage from the CBS broadcast and social media showed Metcalf walking toward a fan wearing a bright blue wig who was leaning over the first-row railing.
In the video, Metcalf appears to reach up, grabbing the fan by his shirt collar and pulling him downward. Moments later, Metcalf is seen forcefully shoving the fan back toward his seat. The spectator, later identified as Ryan Kennedy from Pinckney, Michigan, stated later to The Detroit Free Press that he olny called Metcalf by his first name.
Here is where Chad Johnson appears. He provided a much more volatile account during an episode of the "Nightcap" show. Ochocinco stated that he got told by Metcalf the specifics regards of the exchange. According to the former wideout, the fan's verbal assault went far beyond the government name thing.
Obviously, I'm not condoning putting your hands on the fan or punching the fan. But he did call him (Metcalf) a racial slur. He called him the N-word, and he did call his momma a c*nt, I think with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that's where the action occurred."
