Emily Karihwenhá:wi Kane has been hired as the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) new Public Relations Specialist, specializing in Community Engagement.
Kane assumed the position last Monday and is expected to draw from her professional background to improve communication between the MCK and the community.
"Community involvement has always been important to me, and I hold a special place in my heart for both elders and children," Kane said.

As a former Ata'karihtátshera teacher at Karonhianónhnha tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa, Kane is a fluent Kanien'kéha speaker and writer.
She also worked as an events coordinator, and later manager at the Kateri Memorial Foundation (KMF). According to the MCK, the achievement that Kane is most proud of from her tenure at KMF was overseeing the Karonhiarahstha's Winter Wonderland.
Kane is now ready to bring her initiative to MCK.
"I'm passionate about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, supported, and connected," Kane said.
