'No wonder Victorians don't feel safe': Teen brags about being 'addicted' to stabbing hours after attack

A Melbourne teenager has bragged about being "addicted" to stabbing, hours after he was allegedly involved in a brutal attack on a father and son.

Victoria Police arrested five teenagers early on Sunday morning after two men were allegedly "set upon" and stabbed outside Melbourne's Crown Casino.

Three teenagers claiming to have been involved in the incident returned to the scene on Sunday afternoon, with one showing off handcuff marks and another saying "after you stab someone, you get addicted to it".

Police said the two victims were walking along Yarra Promenade with other family members about 1.50am when the group of five teens passed by and pumped into one of them.

"A short verbal interaction occurred before the teens set upon the pair," Victoria Police said in a statement.

"The victims, aged 23 and 47, were both physically assaulted and stabbed."

The father and son were both taken to hospital with suspected non-life-threatening injuries.

The five alleged offenders were seen running from the scene, but were all arrested a short time later.

A 15-year-old boy from the Broadmeadows area was charged with two counts of intentionally causing injury, one count of affray, two counts of assault in company, and two counts of assault with weapon.

He was remanded in custody to appear before a children's court on Monday.

A 17-year-old boy from the Craigieburn area was charged with affray and assault in company, as well as criminal damage and possession of a controlled weapon without excuse regarding an unrelated incident.

A 14-year-old boy from the Broadmeadows area was charged with affray, recklessly causing injury, two counts of assault in company, and assault by kicking.

Both have bailed to appear before a children's court at a later date.

A 16-year-old boy from the Greensborough area and a 14-year-old boy from the Broadmeadows area were both released pending summons.

Speaking about the incident on Monday, shadow police minister David Southwick said it was no surprise Victorians felt unsafe when those accused of violent crimes brag about it hours later.

"For kids to literally return to the crime scene and say that they're addicted to stabbing people, no wonder Victorians don't feel safe in our state," Mr Southwick said.

"We have a weak government that is not providing strong enough consequences, and we are desperate for consequences."

Premier Jacinta Allan said the government had been absolutely clear that crimes like this would not be tolerated.

"We've been absolutely clear that this, this behaviour, this brazen, shocking and dangerous behaviour, should not be tolerated and will not be tolerated," Premier Allan said.

"It's why we've toughened the bail laws, and the bail laws that are making a difference, there is a 26 per cent increase in the number of young people who are on remand as a result of the laws that we've introduced to date.

"That is why we have already, we have already moved to increase Victoria Police's stop and search powers when it comes to people's possession of dangerous weapons like this... it's why we also introduced the machete ban here in Victoria."

But Mr Southwick said there were too many carve outs in the new laws.

"The government claims we've got the toughest laws in the nation. I mean, if that is the case, I'd hate to see what weak bail laws look like," he said.

"What we're seeing is many of these young offenders are committing serious knife crimes.

"The government has promised that we would have the bail laws to deal with this, but there are too many carve outs, so young people get released back on the streets and recommit these offenses again.

Mr Southwick said people carrying knives and committing serious offences needed to face jail, regardless of their age.

"There must be consequences. There isn't in Victoria. That's why we've had the crime crisis and the lawless state that we have," the shadow minister said.
